WHAT IS SINUS ASSISTED LASER CLOSURE (SILaC)?
-
The procedure is similar to the "pit picking" procedure. It involves using a circular knife to core-out the epithelialized pits and then remove any hairs and infected tracks using a curette.

-
This is followed by introducing a laser probe through the pits from one end to the other and activating the laser to emit controlled laser energy to burn all hair and infected tracks left behind.

-
The laser fiber is introduced again to create a coagulum that seals the tracks and the pits.

-
The procedure is done under local anesthesia in an office setting.

-
The openings take about 4-6 weeks to close.

-
Patients are prescribed antibiotics for 10 days.

-
Pain is minimal and can be managed with over-the-counter medications.

-
Recovery is quick as all patients can resume daily regular activities right away after the procedure.

-
There are no scars and the open wounds are usually very small.

-
Patients are to avoid scooting, squatting and bending over for 2-3 weeks.

-
