DR. GEORGE WADIE, MD, FACS, FAAP

Dr. George Wadie has been taking care of patients with complex pilonidal disease for over 13 years.

Treatment of pilonidal disease can be a challenging and frustrating experience for both the patient and the physician. Several painful stories shared by patients are mostly related to the wrong surgery being done resulting in a worse situation.

Since Dr. Wadie started dealing with patients with this disease, he realized how frustrating and painful it can be to have this condition. At that time, there was no consensus on which procedure is best to treat it. Several complications were associated with most procedures described in the literature.

In his early practice he got introduced to the cleft lift procedure by Dr. John Bascom in Eugene, OR. Since 2007, he had been performing this procedure on hundreds of patients with success rates close to 99%. Those who had the cleft lift by Dr. Wadie as their first operation had close to a 100% success rate.

In 2011, he moved to the Raleigh area where he joined WakeMed Physician Practices. Being a pediatric surgeon, he initially offered this procedure only to children and adolescents. However, after achieving high success rates and feeling the need to have the same results in adult patients, he started offering the cleft lift to adult patients in the Triangle region.

In 2015, he established the first comprehensive pilonidal center for managing all aspects of pilonidal disease in the Southeast region of the country. Since then, he had been performing the cleft lift with excellent results and have been getting patients from all over the states. Currently, more than  60% of Dr. Wadie’s patients had at least one failed surgery prior to presentation.

In 2020, Dr. Wadie decided to establish a specialized pilonidal center outside the hospital setting to be able to take better care of his patients. This allows him to offer more personalized care, Implement a standardized approach with all patients, remove several boundaries that limit patient access to care and offer the patients more flexibility.

Dr. George Wadie is a board-certified surgeon who established the Wake Pediatric Surgery and Pilonidal Clinic in 2020. He has experience in pediatric and pilonidal surgery in the United States and Egypt.
